Failing to manage diversity, Africa's main problem
Posted at FB 20 dec 2013
Is President Salva Kiir of South Sudan leading the country to dictatorship and civil war that will result in a failed state as Isaias Afworki did after liberation? Is President Al Bashir also leading the North to more splits through his dictatorial regime? What is going on in Southern Sudan sheds light on the of the main problems facing many African countries and that is, the issue of managing their diversity in a proper way that respects the rights of all components and avoiding the domination of one group at the expence of the interest of the other groups. The Sudan split into two countries and risks more splits because the Northern elite failed to mangae the diversity of the country after independence. The South which was regarded as mainly African and Christain split from the presumed Arab and Muslim North, yet fails to manage its African diversity. The separation did not bring peace to both the South and North. This report by the International Crisis Group highlights the seriousness of what is going on in Southern Sudan
And the crisis still rages
