Glory to the unknown heroes of the Eritrean liberation struggle

Glory to the unknown heroes of the Eritrean liberation struggle

This is in memory of and to pay tribute to: all those Eritrean freedom fighters whose faces we do not know, whose pictures we have not seen, whose stories we have not heard, whose origins and backgrounds we do not know, whose heroism is untold, those who came from remote areas and those who came from urban centres; but yet deeply missed by their loved ones:

To all those who:
  • -       Died fighting against foreign intervention, by word, in writing, or by the sword or by taking arms since the colony, Eritrea was created in 1890 and/or before or after it;
  • -       Struggled for freedom in the 1940s and were killed by the anti-independence movement, by their Shifta, by their sponsors (Haile Sellasie’s regime), by their militias and others;
  • -       Left their homes to join the liberation army but never made it to their destination;
  • -       Died in enemy or liberation movement prisons;
  • -       Fought for the ELM, the various PLF groups, the ELF, ELF groups, EPLF;
  • -       Joined the liberation army voluntarily or were forcibly conscripted;
  • -       Were killed after liberation by their own Government that they brought to power;
  • -       Gave the best they had and lost everything;

GLORY TO ALL THOSE UNKNOWN HEROES
