Eritrea's Deteriorating Health System
20 August, 2026
A healthy
population is the backbone of a society. It drives a society's wellbeing.
Individuals can live longer, be more productive physically and intellectually,
have fewer chronic diseases and disabilities, and, through preventive methods,
a health service can reduce disease prevalence and respond to new challenges
that may arise. But in a country where the government fails to provide basic
services such as safe drinking water,
talking of a health system becomes a luxury.
Eritreans
currently describe the health services as lacking essential equipment and
medicines, with a shortage of trained manpower, and medical staff are all
overwhelmed to the point of collapse.
